Addressing Healthcare Waste in Nepal
Waste Service Pvt Ltd, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and financial backing from China’s South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund, successfully implemented the Promoting Green Recovery Project (PGRP) focused on strengthening the capacities of designated hospitals by establishing healthcare waste management committees, training hospital staff at all levels, and providing technical and logistical support during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This initiative aimed to tackle the challenges of infectious healthcare waste management, reduce health risks, prevent environmental degradation, and stop the dumping of untreated infectious waste into municipal landfills.
As part of the project, Waste Service delivered critical materials to hospitals, including Rapti Provincial Hospital, Narayani Hospital, and Koshi Hospital. These materials included a 50 kg automatic hospital laundry washing machine with a dryer, incubators, medication trolleys, weighing machines, transportation trolleys, and specialized colored buckets for proper healthcare waste segregation. This initiative was highlighted in the article Need of Healthcare Waste Management System published on the UNDP Nepal website: https://www.undp.org/nepal/blog/need-healthcare-waste-management-system
